Efektivitas Pelatihan Public Speaking Berbasis Komunitas dalam Meningkatkan Kepercayaan Diri Generasi Muda Vihara Windu Paramita

Abstract. This study aims to explore the effectiveness of community-based public speaking training at Vihara Windu Paramita (Klenteng Hok Tek Ceng Sin) in helping participants overcome glossophobia (fear of public speaking), build self-confidence, and develop oral communication skills. Using a qualitative descriptive approach through a case study method, data were collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving 15 participants aged 16–25, two facilitators, and temple administrators. Data analysis followed the interactive model by Miles and Huberman, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that the four-week training program, grounded in the community of practice (CoP) approach, effectively reduced participants' speaking anxiety and enhanced their selfconfidence, vocal abilities, eye contact, and the structure of message delivery. Key success factors include a supportive environment, the use of graduated exposure methods, constructive feedback, and the role of facilitators as learning models. These findings affirm that community-based public speaking training is an effective tool for developing communication skills and self-confidence, and it can serve as a model for similar programs in other social settings. Future research is recommended to adopt a quantitative approach using pre-test and post-test instruments to measure the program's effectiveness more precisely.

Abstrak.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengeksplorasi efektivitas pelatihan public speaking berbasis komunitas di Vihara Windu Paramita (Klenteng Hok Tek Ceng Sin) dalam membantu peserta mengatasi rasa gugup (glossophobia), meningkatkan kepercayaan diri, serta menguasai keterampilan komunikasi lisan. Menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif dengan metode studi kasus, data dikumpulkan melalui observasi partisipatif, wawancara mendalam, dan studi dokumentasi terhadap 15 peserta berusia 16–25 tahun, dua fasilitator, serta pengurus vihara. Analisis data dilakukan dengan model interaktif Miles dan Huberman yang mencakup reduksi, penyajian, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pelatihan yang dilaksanakan selama empat minggu dengan pendekatan community of practice (CoP) mampu menurunkan tingkat kecemasan berbicara dan meningkatkan aspek kepercayaan diri, kemampuan vokal, kontak mata, serta struktur penyampaian materi peserta. Faktor kunci keberhasilan program meliputi lingkungan yang suportif, metode latihan bertahap (graduated exposure), pemberian umpan balik konstruktif, serta peran fasilitator sebagai model pembelajaran. Temuan ini menegaskan bahwa pelatihan public speaking berbasis komunitas efektif sebagai sarana pengembangan keterampilan komunikasi dan kepercayaan diri, serta dapat dijadikan model bagi program serupa di lingkungan sosial lainnya. Penelitian lanjutan disarankan menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif untuk mengukur efektivitas program secara lebih terperinci melalui instrumen pre-test dan post test
